Oculus Rift Pre-Orders Now Open, Priced at $600

Even if you order the Rift today (Jan. 6) as preorders begin in 20 countries, you’ll still be able to order the PC bundle without it affecting your Rift ship date, Oculus says.

For those who need a PC to support the device, “Oculus Ready PCs” will be up for pre-order in February at $1499 and ship on March 28. If you pre-order an Oculus Rift now, you’ll have to wait until May before it ships. That’s good news for those who may end up inclined to instead seek the headset at retailers, a select number of which will have the Rift available “in limited locations” starting in April.

All Rift pre-orders aslo include access to EVE: Valkyrie through the Founder’s Pack, which will include exclusive in-game content, founder status in Valkyrie, and much more. More than 100 virtual reality games and other experiences are coming this year. The horror game Edge of Nowhere and a virtual reality edition of Rock Band are both expected in 2016.

The remote allows users to browse the Oculus store, explore 360-degree videos and navigate virtual reality experiences.

Oculus has announced that backers of its Kickstarter campaign will receive free sets of the consumer headset. Those six hundred bucks are on top of the costs of a PC capable of running current games; if you’re anxious about whether your computer can handle the technology, that pre-order page can scan your computer and let you know. Pre-ordering will also secure you a place in line for Touch pre-orders when they open later this year.
