Obama faces tough sell on gun control

But the real problem behind mass shootings, he says, is a spiritual one.

Obama insisted Thursday that his push for gun control is necessary.

“Following the teachings and example of Jesus Christ and of St Francis of Assisi, FAN considers peacemaking integral to its mission”.

“This executive order won’t end all gun violence”. The president says yes. “However, FAN applauds the President for doing what he can within his legal abilities”.

“I would prefer, and I think all Americans would prefer, that gun issues be handled within the Congress and not exclusively by the president”, Ashford tells Nebraska Radio Network.

U.S. President Barack Obama participates in a live town hall event on reducing gun violence hosted by CNN’s Anderson Cooper (R) at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia on January 7, 2016.

“I would like to hear the administration say that he would like to, he would welcome the firearm retailer into the discussion because up to this point this decision has been made without input from the firearm retailers”, Pennock said.

“I’d challenge the notion that the reason for that is because there’s more gun ownership”.

Chris Kyle’s widow, Taya Kyle, questioned President Obama at a CNN town hall on Thursday why he was focused on gun control when violent crime is at a multi-decade low.

Obama agreed that not all criminals could be stopped through expanded background checks, but said gun laws, like traffic laws, could reduce fatalities over time “so families are spared”.

“The goal is keeping bad actors away from firearms”, Lynch said after the President changed the way gun sales are monitored and carried out.

Kyle cited declining national murder statistics and asked the president: “Why not celebrate where we are … celebrate that we’re good people, and 99.9 percent of us are never going to kill anyone?” But what Obama hasn’t mentioned – and didn’t mention in his speech Tuesday – is that all of the guns used in these mass shootings were purchased legally.

While it sounds like Taya doesn’t already know that murder is already illegal, she meant that Barack’s new restrictions wouldn’t stop people who don’t follow the law.

“All of us can agree that it makes sense to do everything we can to keep guns out of the hands of people who would do others harm, or themselves harm”, he said at the time.
