Brie Larson wins best actress in a drama at Golden Globes

In one of the most competitive categories of the year, it was Brie Larson who walked away with the Golden Globe award for best actress in a drama on Sunday for her work in “Room”. This is her first Golden Globe. She also thanked Room co-star Jacob Tremblay who played her son Jack Newsome in the film.

The “Room” star has been nominated for a number of prestigious awards including a Golden Globe but doesn’t think there’s any point worrying about winning it as she has likened it to planning a wedding without a boyfriend.

“This movie means so much to me”, Larson said onstage.

The duo told Instagram: ‘We really like people, and the idea of finding the most iconic, the most heroic, the most timeless, the most essential image of someone’. And Alicia Vikander received plenty of praise for playing the wife of a transgender woman in The Danish Girl. “Gerda has a certain kind of strength to her, and it’s quite empowering, quite forward, and a lot of energy”.

‘Brooklyn’s Saoirse Ronan was stunning in a Grecian-inspired white column dress by Yves Saint Laurent Couture while Laverne Cox opted for an Elizabeth Kennedy gown and Taraji P. Henson chose a Stella McCartney strapless dress. “You see her with no make-up and like, not how you normally see an actress in a film, just like, raw skin, clogged pores”. Also of Irish interest at the awards was the nomination for Northern Irish shot ‘Game of Thrones for Best Drama Series and Eva Green was nominated for Best Actress Drama Series for ‘Penny Dreadful, shot in Ardmore Studios in Bray.
