The likes of Russian Federation and South Korea are also still waiting on news as to when the Oculus Rift will hit their countries. In its announcement today, Oculus also revealed the system’s price for the first time: $599.

The Rift comes with an Xbox One controller, an external tracking camera, a remote, and a pretty snazzy box. Oculus Rift, the headset that first sparked interest in VR back in 2012 following a surprisingly successful Kickstarter campaign, has spent years under wraps.

Bundles that include a powerful computer needed to use the device will be available for pre-order in February starting at $1499 (approx Rs 1 lakh).

“I think the $599 price point was higher than some people expected, but it’s really not the key inhibitor for adoption – it’s having a PC that’s Oculus-ready”, J.P. Gownder, a Forrester Research Inc. analyst, told us.

On the content side of the equation, preordered systems will come bundled with Lucky’s Tale by Playful and CCP’s EVE: Valkyrie.

Despite a price that was more than anticipated, the Rift will come packaged with several goodies.

Of those familiar, 25 percent were able to name the Oculus Rift, 21 percent named the Samsung Gear VR and 20 percent named the PlayStation VR.

All those who preorder now will also have a spot to preorder the Oculus Touch controller, which has been delayed, when it is launched later this year.
