“The Revenant”, which tells the story of a frontiersman named Hugh Glass who was left for dead by others following a brutal bear attack in the 1820s, won best drama film, best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and best director for Alejandro Inarritu.

Comedian Ricky Gervais hosted the ceremony for a fourth time, repeating his unapologetic, boundary-pushing, Hollywood-skewering brand of humour. So, to be clear, that was a joke about me shoving Golden Globes, that I’ve won, up my ass.

And Kate Winslet, who took a supporting actress award for her role in “Steve Jobs”.

Pioneer-era tale “The Revenant” won three awards including best drama film, beating out front-runners “Carol”, a lesbian romance, and investigative journalism drama “Spotlight”.

Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her performance in “Joy”.

Best foreign language film went to Hungary’s Laszlo Nemes’ “Son of Saul”, a harrowing view of life inside Auschwitz.

Leonardo DiCaprio arguably stole the limelight with his reaction as Gaga brushed past him on her way to accept her award.

On the television side, best drama victor “Mr. Robot” was considered a huge upset over the heavily-favored “Game of Thrones”.

There were plenty of quippy sound bites delivered on stage during this year’s Golden Globes ceremony, ranging from downright shocking to emotional and inspiring.

The awards are decided by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, made up of some 90 entertainment editors and writers from 55 countries who report on the industry year-round.

Actress, Drama: Brie Larson, Room.

Picture, Musical or Comedy: The Martian.

Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone, Creed. Though Inarritu had a similar run at the Academy Awards last year with the best-picture winning “Birdman”, he won only a share of best screenplay at last year’s Globes.

As award-winning shows and their stars including political satire “Veep”, ground-breaking transgender series “Transparent” and quirky black comedy “Fargo” sat on the sidelines, only Jon Hamm, star of advertising drama “Mad Men”, was a repeat victor.

Original Score: Ennio Morricone, ‘The Hateful Eight’.

Taraji P. Henson, who won an award for her work in Empire, spent much of her speech complaining about the short time allotted for acceptance speeches. Rachel Bloom from the new show “Crazy Ex Girlfriend” won! Oops! Ultimately the trophy goes to Oscar Isaac for “Show Me a Hero”.
