Broncos announce Peyton Manning will start at QB for the playoffs

The Denver Broncos have named Peyton Manning the starting quarterback for the playoffs, taking the job away from Brock Osweiler.

The surprise actually was that Kubiak turned to Manning then, given that the Broncos seemed to be Osweiler’s team after he orchestrated an overtime triumph over the Cincinnati Bengals in a Monday night game six days before the finale against the Chargers.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Gary Kubiak stuck to his word in naming Peyton Manning his starter even after declaring that Brock Osweiler had done nothing to deserve a demotion.

Kubiak called his quarterbacks into his office Thursday when players returned from a three-day furlough and informed them of his decision.

Currently, the Broncos are awaiting their opponent for the AFC divisional playoffs on January 17, which will be the lowest seed from Saturday’s wild card matchups – the Houston Texans, the Kansas City Chiefs, or the Pittsburgh Steelers. He felt like putting Tyler in was a good move for us as a football team.

Adding to Manziel’s issues, Cavaliers forward LeBron James ended his business partnership with him Wednesday. Manning has thrown more INTs this season than he has since 2001 despite appearing in just 10 games.

However, with his vast playoff experience and Kubiak concerned with the inconsistency and lack of experience by Osweiler, this is the best option in the head coach’s mind.

The Peyton Manning era in Denver may very well come to an end after this season, and if they don’t win the Super Bowl they’ll fall short of their biggest goal; the one they created when he originally committed to the Broncos back in March 2012. The veteran quarterback may of even made enough progress to have a shot at playing the Denver Broncos next game. “I always try to imitate his game and think like Peyton would think … he’s probably the best player ever”. Manning does have the most postseason appearances among QBs (15), thrown for the most yards (6,800) and has a record nine 300-yard passing games. Manning has taken three rides to the Super Bowl, with one victory.

This IS likely Manning’s last hurrah with the Broncos.

“We think the world of Brock”, Kubiak said.

Kubiak surely won’t hesitate to go back to him if he has to.

“Look, I’d be lying to say I’ve never thought – I know people say, ‘I’m not thinking about that, I’ve never thought about that.’ I am excited to be thinking about who we’re going to play this weekend, and have the opportunity to help and contribute in some way”.
