Vonn wins 73rd World Cup race, narrows overall deficit
Lindsey Vonn sealed another golden weekend by claiming a 73rd International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup victory in the super-G at Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, while Norwegian slalom specialist Henrik Kristoffersen triumphed as the men’s tour resumed in Adelboden.

Austria’s Cornelia Hutter (+1.25secs) edged out Nadia Fanchini (+1.26), Elisabeth Goergl (+1.30) and Francesca Marsaglia (+1.34) to take the final place on the podium.
Vonn, who equalled Austrian Annemarie Moser-Proell’s record haul of 36 career downhill victories yesterday, proved similarly dominant in the Austrian resort with a near-perfect performance.
In 2012, Vonn won the latest of her four overall titles and came just 20 points short of breaking the then record for the highest World Cup points total in a single season.
Up next, Vonn goes for World Cup win number 73 as she chases Ingemar Stenmark’s record of 86 World Cup victories in Sunday’s super-G.
“I just had a bad feeling after (not finishing last month’s downhill in) Val d’Isere, I lost the momentum, I was exhausted, my knees hurt, and I was sick in the end”, she said.
Gut’s lead at the top of the standings has now been trimmed to just 38 points over Vonn as the halfway point of the season approaches, with the Swiss on 738. But I’ve learned a lot since. Organizers had to lower the start because of insufficient snow conditions in the upper part, shortening the course from its usual 3 kilometers to 1,875 meters. ”It was hard to stay relaxed”, Vonn said about her final run.
“I skied a little bit more conservatively second run [with the large time advantage]”.
“I’m not focused on the overall right now”, Vonn said. “I think I was smart with my tactics”.
Vonn led by a comfortable.
It was that bottom section where Vonn ultimately won the race. “But it’s good to see you can challenge Vonn if you have a good run”.
“It took me too long to react”. Possibly even helped by a big mistake at the last split, she was leading Vonn by 0.35 seconds.

Today after the first run I thought this is my chance to show what Ive learned, said the Canadian, who is traveling the World Cup circuit with her own team.
