Oculus has officially opened up the flood-gates on pre-order for the Rift, though the price-point is somewhat steeper than originally expected, with a tag of approximately $599.
Starting in February, Oculus will let people preorder a Rift headset along with a PC that will work with it; these will start at $1,499.
Oculus VR, the company behind the new virtual reality gaming headset Oculus Rift, has officially started taking preorders, promising to give users a glimpse into the future.
The headset will be available in March, with select retailers stocking a limited selection of the set from April. Luckily, potential buyers can download a Rift compatibility tool from Oculus to check if their machine needs an upgrade. Oculus Rift, the headset that first sparked interest in VR back in 2012 following a surprisingly successful Kickstarter campaign, has spent years under wraps. Oculus says that 100 games will be available for the Rift by the end of 2016.
Those wishing to obtain a pre-order can go to the Oculus Store.
So what will this high cost of entry mean for the Oculus Rift, and virtual reality technology on the whole?

Previous media reports had priced the Rift at $1,500 – its price including a high-end PC capable of processing the graphics. Facebook acquired Oculus VR for about $2 Billion in 2014. It also includes a free game: Lucky’s Tale.
