Obama’s State of Union proposals often hit wall in Congress

Obama’s aides are previewing a sweeping address Tuesday, meant to lay out Obama’s long-term view of his presidency.

Behold all the options, which are a testament to how much Obama’s White House has worked to bring digital tools to the forefront in an effort to get the president’s messages in front of as many people as possible.

In addition to the official White House channels, you can of course watch the address on a regular old television or radio. There’s always a “designated survivor”, who is a member of the cabinet designated to be at an undisclosed location when he delivers the speech, in case something happens to the president, vice president and speaker.

The Republican Party has long dismissed Obama’s economic record.

“Working with others makes us safer and stronger than going it alone”, said one senior advisor, requesting anonymity to discuss the president’s recent discussions with the staff.

Still, the president will tout progress on the economy, which was plunging into the depths of recession when he took office and is now humming at a more comfortable pace. On foreign policy, he’ll try to convince a public increasingly skeptical of his foreign policy stewardship that he has a handle on the volatile Middle East and is taking steps to prevent terrorism in the United States.

Also in a seat of honor will be Ryan Reyes, the surviving partner of San Bernardino shooting victim Daniel Kaufman, whom the White House points to as an important voice for religious and cultural tolerance. “Ready to go!” chant that became ubiquitous during his 2008 campaign.

Obama intends to work on expanding Medicaid, reforming the criminal justice system, bolstering trade relations, curbing gun violence and staking out new territory in the fight against climate change.
