Powerball jackpot jumps to $1.4 billion

The Powerball lottery jackpot has continued to climb since November 4, reaching an estimated, record-shattering $1.4 billion as of Monday evening.

Since Nov. 4, the Powerball jackpot has grown from its $40 million starting point as no one has won the jackpot.

While that’s the largest USA lottery jackpot ever, lotteries elsewhere in the world can be far bigger. As of 7 p.m., Californians had scooped up $59.1 million in Powerball tickets, officials said.

To match five numbers and win $1 million, or $2 million with $1 Powerplay, it’s a 11 million to one chance.

Now at an unprecedented $1.3 billion, the Powerball is the largest lottery jackpot in world history.

Although 16 people walked away with a substantial amount of loot Saturday, no one hit it big and the jackpot surpassed $1 billion.

More than $900 million (£615 million) in Powerball tickets were sold in the four days leading up to Saturday’s Lottery draw. The pot was split among three winning tickets with all the right numbers.

“It only takes 1 ticket to win”.

Lottery officials say the estimated cash value is $868 million. Minnesotans bundled up against January’s subfreezing temps are lining up at convenience stories everywhere in hopes they may soon be living on a beach as the Powerball’s next multimillionaire.

The Powerball lottery is available in 44 states, District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

California officials said that six tickets purchased in the state matched five of the six winning numbers, entitling their holders to smaller, but still substantial, prize money.

She says 2.8 million dollars worth of tickets were sold in Tennessee just on Sunday alone.

Doug Evans made a decision to try his luck more than once this time, buying 20 tickets for himself.

The Dane ticket was sold at Dane Kwik Stop, 101 W. Main St., the Wisconsin Lottery said.

By the way, chances of winning the grand prize are one in 292,201,338.

Winners of the top prize are paid in 30 annual installments or as a one-time, lump sum payment.
