Police say a man armed with a knife held almost a dozen children and a woman inside a motel room for about five hours before he stabbed himself.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Korrie Thomas, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, according to Channel 2 Action News. They offered no motive for the attack.
Diamond Williams, 21, placed a 911 call claiming to be another woman and alleging a domestic assault, DeKalb County police Maj.
Police say they’ve surrounded a hotel near Atlanta as a man inside is refusing to leave, prompting concerns about the safety of several children inside the building.
The man stabbed himself in the neck as police entered the room to end the long standoff.
Thomas is facing false imprisonment and obstruction charges. He said in an email that Williams has been charged with false report of a crime.
The man was not cooperating with police and was possibly armed with a knife, leading law enforcement negotiators to believe the hostages were in danger, WSB-TV reported. No one else was injured. Jail records did not list an attorney for him.
Details about the police negotiations with him were not released.

DeKalb police said Thomas is the dad of at least some of the 11 children who range in age from three months to 17 years old.
