7 magnitude quake hits India’s northeast, leaves 4 dead

At least 100 people have reportedly been injured in Bangladesh as many with panic rushed out of their residences for safety, Xinhua reported.
A Central medical team comprising orthopedics, surgeons, anesthesiologist and other technicians, has also been deputed to Manipur to assist with the treatment of injured people.
The natural disaster was originally reported to have measured 6.8 magnitude.
After Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister spoke to him, the Manipur Chief Minister said that the centre has assured all possible help to him for the quake hit state.
In the capital Imphal, the Minuthong bridge linking the east and west districts was damaged, disrupting road connectivity.

The quake struck while many residents were asleep, and roofs and staircases of some buildings collapsed in the city of about 270,000 people.
Apart from Tamenglong district, the epicentre of the quake, Churachandpur district in Manipur also reported a large number of injuries. It was also felt in adjoining Myanmar, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is coordinating with north-eastern states and others concerned for rescue and relief after an quake early Monday morning in Manipur, a home ministry statement said.
The USGS website showed user-submitted reports of moderate to strong ground shaking from many locations in the far eastern part of India as well as parts of neighboring Bangladesh, which lies west of the quake’s epicenter.
Almost 90 members of the National Disaster Response Force, a specialized federal force for natural disasters, have left to check on remote areas, police said.

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, wrote on Twitter that he was in touch with authorities in the affected area. Manipur state’s home minister, G. Gaikhangam, said several areas suffered extensive damage, especially the capital, Imphal.
