Leonardo DiCaprio acknowledges first nations in Golden Globe acceptance speech

It’s widely believed that the Globes predict the Oscars, despite industry critics (including four-time host Ricky Gervais) that blast the award show’s credibility.

Clay Landry, who was the film’s historical consultant, joined host Leisha Grebinski on CBC’s Saskatoon Morning to talk about how he and two colleagues – Loren Yellowbird and Craig Falcon – ensured indigenous culture and people were accurately portrayed in the film.

Jon Hamm won the Globe for best actor in a drama series for his work in the farewell season of AMC’s period advertising drama “Mad Men”.

In his short speech, Washington thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization that hands out the Golden Globes, “for supporting me over the years”.

While, the Golden Globe Award for the best-supporting actress in a feature film went to actress Kate Winslet.

“I can not say how surprised I am and how proud I am to have survived this movie”, Inarritu said, referring to the harsh conditions in which the movie was filmed, mainly in Canada and Argentina. There’s something poetic about the actor winning for playing Rocky Balboa in Creed decades after he originated the role in Rocky. Veteran actress Maura Tierney was the same, winning best supporting actress-drama for The Affair.

“Mozart” star Gael Garcia Bernal won the best comedic actor award, beating out Jeffrey Tambor of “Transparent” and Patrick Stewart of “Blunt Talk”.

Jennifer Lawrence won for best comedic actress for her turn in “Joy“, about a woman who becomes the founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty. The actor later said the almost $600 million success of “The Martian” was an unlikely pleasure: “I have made a lot of movies that people just didn’t go see”. She also thanked her co-stars for enabling her to “shine”.

The victory of “Wolf Hall” in the category of best TV movie or miniseries led to an worldwide political pitch. Among network shows, “Empire” and “American Horror Story: Hotel”, which airs on Fox-owned FX, each won a Golden Globe.
