Powerball Jackpot at 1.4 billion, past lottery victor shares secrets

Powerball jackpot estimates will climb over $1 billion for the first time after no winning numbers were drawn Saturday night. One of those excited locations was a Fremont 7-Eleven store, which sold one of six tickets that won $779,264 in Powerball’s Saturday drawing.

The estimated cash value of the jackpot is $868 million, and experts believe it will only go higher as the drawing gets closer.

Kelly Cripe with the Texas Lottery, which is part of the Multi-State Lottery Association, says the jackpot will likely increase before the next drawing, which is Wednesday.

The winning numbers for the Powerball drawing were: 16-19-32-34-57, with the Powerball number, 13.

More than 6,000 people came in, compared to a normal day, when about 3,000 or 3,500 people stop in, Elliott said.

“I bought four yesterday, and I usually never buy any”, said Smith, manager of Bucky’s gas station and convenience store.

The next, even more potentially rewarding drawing, capable of creating even more expansive fantasies, will be held on Wednesday night.

The recent run of rollovers follows the number of balls in the draw increasing from 49 to 59 in October, reducing the odds on a player’s six numbers coming up from around one in 14 million to one in 45 million. He expects to find out who won the million dollars after they check in at the lottery office in Hampton.

For at least the next few days the lottery’s electric signs in Iowa will incorrectly display the jackpot amount at $999 million because the technology’s creators did not envision a jackpot climbing into the rarified air of 10 figures.

The Lottery reminds players to play responsibly; it only takes one ticket to win and to sign your ticket immediately after purchase. By matching just the five white numbers, you can also win $1 million, available only in a lump sum.

The inquiries include many myths and misconceptions about the winners, the prize money and the system that decides them. “Who needs that much money?” That was technically correct, but officials fixed the glitch by the time the jackpot grew to $1.4 billion on Monday. The lottery computers will handle the decimal point without a problem.

The previous jackpot record was £42m, which was shared between three ticket-holders in January 1996.
