Curry takes blow to shin, survives scare in Warriors triumph

Golden State’s Klay Thompson scored 22 of his 36 points in the first quarter to lay the foundation for a 109-88 over the lowly Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, exposing the gulf between the top and bottom teams in the Pacific Division.

Curry ran back down the court limping after appearing to hit his shin on the Lakers’ Roy Hibbert while scoring on a third-quarter layup. The injury kept the Golden State Warriors superstar out of two games at the end of December, and he had to leave Saturday’s game early, too. “It’s just frustrating and annoying and any other adjective you want to throw in there”.

As Steph deals with the pain, it’s a relief to know that the damage won’t be long-term. The 30-6 Spurs sit just 3 1/2 games behind the Warriors for first place in the West and haven’t yet lost at home, so homecourt advantage could factor into which team moves on in a potential conference finals series.

According to Simmons, Curry told reporters after Tuesday’s win that the leg injury will take four weeks to completely heal but that he’s “not sitting out four weeks”.

The Lakers head into their Tuesday night meeting with the Golden State Warriors on a surprising three game win streak.

The Warriors never trailed while beating the Lakers at Staples Center for only the fifth time in franchise history.

This game was a no-brainer for the Warriors pretty much from the start. After defeating the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, and blowing out the Phoenix Suns the purple and gold are riding high, but taking on the 32-2 Warriors is going to be a tall order. Larry Nance Jr. scored nine points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Kobe Bryant is still out resting an aching shoulder, and rookie D’Angelo Russell will be held out of action do to a sore throat. “They have a high IQ, and they capitalize on the lower IQs”. In this three-game streak, they are 40-of-61 for 93 points when shooting off a Green pass, including 20-of-23 on uncontested looks.

Former Dallas guard Rajon Rondo was out with back spasms in his first visit since an acrimonious split after an ill-fated half-season with the Mavericks.

Sacramento capitalized on the absence of Kevin Durant due to a sprained big toe and won 116-104 at Oklahoma City, led by 33 points and a season-best 19 rebound by DeMarcus Cousins. “The way Jimmy is playing now is unreal”, said Derrick Rose.

If there was anything that could seriously slow down the Golden State Warriors’ scorched-earth campaign over the National Basketball Association, it was always going to be an injury to the MVP, Steph Curry.
