Robin Hood: Origins Adds Jamie Foxx As Little John

Kingsman: Secret Service star Taron Egerton will play the titular role with Eve Hewson as Maid Marian.

Jamie Foxx, last seen ferrying Quevenzhané Wallis around town in the Annie reboot, is preparing to take on another classic character.

Jamie Foxx has reportedly joined the Robin Hood: Origins movie and will probably steal the show.

Bathurst is best known for Peaky Blinders, while the script was written by Joby Harold, the scribe responsible for Guy Ritchie’s recently delayed Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur.

Described as an origin story in the vein of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Robin Hood: Origins aims for a new take on the folk hero.

No word on who’s playing the devious Sheriff of Nottingham – though being a prequel he likely isn’t Sheriff yet- in the Leonardo DiCaprio-produced flick.

Similar to Morgan Freeman’s character in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (y’know… the one with Kevin Costner as Robin Hood), Foxx’s Little John will evidently be a muslim who is “battle-hardened but war-weary”, who ultimately comes to respect and admire the young outlaw. The Lionsgate project, directed by Otto Bathurst, will feature the “Django Unchained” star in the role of Robin Hood’s second-in-command, Little John, and is expected to start filming late summer or fall soon after Egerton finishes working on the “Kingsman” sequel.
