Rumors have been flying (no pun intended) since Supergirl started that Vandervoort would eventually land a part in the series and now it’s happened.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Vandervoort will portray the superheroine-turned-villain Indigo, beginning episode 15. In addition to star Melissa Benoist, who plays Kara Danvers, Helen Slater – who played Kara Zor-El in the 1984 film “Supergirl” – plays Kara’s foster mother (and Slater also appeared on “Smallville”).

Two new characters are on the way to “Supergirl’s” National City.

It may be a little jarring but far from uncommon for actors to play different characters within the same comic universe. The character of the “Young and the Restless” alum is described as a forceful and unrelenting jail guard on Fort Rozz, who showed no mercy. She was one of the Fort Rozz prisoners.

And as for Master Jailer, he is “now on Earth, (and) he is hellbent on catching all of the Fort Rozz escapees and brutally bringing them to justice”.

Vandervoort’s first episode of Supergirl has yet to be announced.

Episode 13 (February 8) – “For the Girl Who Has Everything”: An adaption of Alan Moore’s story from Superman Annual #11, “For the Man Who Has Everything”. EP Greg Berlanti acknowledged that when Supergirl’s friends find her in the episode, she’s in a vegetative state.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
