“This surcharge is a direct way to ensure that effective rates rise for taxpayers who are avoiding paying their fair share, and that the richest Americans pay an effective rate higher than middle-class families”, a Clinton aide said.
The U.S. Democratic presidential candidates participated in a forum aimed at young and minority voters in Iowa Monday night, and discussed topics ranging from immigration to the death of British rock icon David Bowie.
Hillary Clinton said she would announce her plans to go even farther than the Buffett rule.
The attacks are similar to charges made by Hillary Clinton herself in recent days.
While she has locked up the vast majority of support from party leaders and large donors, Mr. Sanders has captured the hearts of many in the Democratic base with his unapologetically liberal economic message.
Under New Hampshire’s modified primary system, undeclared voters may vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary, although voters who are members of one of the parties can not vote in the other party’s primary. President Barack Obama recently wrote in an op-ed he wouldn’t campaign for any candidate that doesn’t support “common-sense gun reform”.
“When it really mattered, Senator Sanders voted with the gun lobby and I voted against the gun lobby”, said Clinton last week when she called into MSNBC’s “Hardball”. “Like many pieces of legislation, it’s complicated”, Sanders said. “Throughout my political career I have ended up with a D- voting record from the NRA”.
The Monmouth survey is the second released this month to show Sanders with a double-digit lead over Clinton in New Hampshire, although most other recent polls show a tight race with the candidates within the margin of error of one another.
When it comes to likely New Hampshire caucus-goers, Sanders leads Clinton 50 percent to 46 percent.
Clinton’s proposals have included a $350 billion plan to reduce college debt; a $275 billion plan to invest in infrastructure and a $30 billion plan to assist coal-dependent regions as the country transitions to renewable energy.
“A loss there could be a sharp blow to all the work we’ve done”. You can not come and say, ‘Oh, it’s a shame that it’s just 1,000 that are coming out.’ Well, do they know how to do it? “It’s going to be close, but I’m ready to do this”.

Ms. Clinton still holds a strong advantage among black and Latino voters who play a bigger role in the primaries in late February and March.
