A section of a 1983 interview David Bowie gave to MTV in which he blasted the music channel for the lack of diversity among musicians played is quickly spreading across social media. “He says, ‘the album is called Hunky Dory, and the artist is David Bowie'”.
Even then, his 1970s androgynous/gender neutral alter ego of Ziggy Stardust definitely made him stuff of legend, not just for creating music, but for creating art that continues to be a marvellous discovery for each generation. Spanning a career of over five decades, Bowie rose to fame in the 70s and was best known for his androgynous appearance and innovations in music. “I’m so very sad”.
“The whole presentation of the work, you know you listen to it one way and you think he is on his way back perhaps he might tour again, but now as his last artistic testament it’s a very eerie record”. “He was an actor, a musician”.
Fans stand by a mural of David Bowie in Brixton, south London, Britain, January 11, 2016. The influence he had on people to be themselves, to be their true selves and to express themselves creatively. And there really is a God – so do I buy that one?
Tributes had also been left outside a property thought to have been his childhood home in Stansfield Road.
“He was my hero from childhood, he was an fantastic artist until the end, always changing, always evolving, always taking from other people and inspiring himself and others”.
Clontarf native Gerry, who was also Bowie’s musical director, said he got in touch with Bowie last Friday following the release of his Blackstar album on his 69th birthday. “I can’t make a big drama out of it. I just feel like an era has ended with his passing”. It is likely that fans will keep hitting the rewind button, trying to grasp each word and uncover the important, hidden message-which I suspect was exactly what Bowie had in mind.

In a music video accompanying the album, the singer was shown in a hospital bed with bandages around his eyes.
