David Bowie’s last music video confronts issues of mortality

“The unexpected death of David Bowie has turned this tribute, which we have worked on for the past seven months, into a memorial concert”, the show’s organisers said.

Bowie was an iconic musical genius who influenced generations of fellow musicians and left a soundtrack for the lives of his listeners.

“All the furniture was gone and he certainly didn’t leave any of his albums behind”, he said.

He shot to fame with 1969’s Space Oddity, the lyrics of which summed up the loneliness of the Cold War space race and coincided with the Apollo landing on the moon: “Ground Control to Major Tom”. After John died, David was always there for Sean and me. He asked them if they would sing some backing vocals.

“For him. I was not ready for a relationship”.

Tributes have flooded in around from around the world to the “extraordinary artist” whose last album was released just days ago.

“Very sad news to wake up to on this raining morning”.

Fans gather Monday to mourn the death of David Bowie at a mural of the singer in his native London neighborhood of Brixton, Jan. 11, 2016. I’ll be offline for a while. There are countless tales of people from the 80s – the Romantic era, guys wearing make-up and all that – they all say it wouldn’t have been anything, it all came from David Bowie. “I feel a huge gap now”, he added.

In the Top 40 alone, the latest LP is joined by 1972’s The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (number 19) and Hunky Dory (20), and 1973’s Aladdin Sane (32).

A member of Bowie’s inner circle, Gerry Leonard previously performed with him at the Point Theatre in November 2003 for the Reality Tour.

The last known image taken of David was posted on the singer’s Instagram account on Friday, just two days before he died – to mark his 69th birthday and the release of his 28th, and final, album. I can remember back-combing my hair for hours afterwards to get the look.

The event is set to take place at Carnegie Hall in NY on March 31, and feature artists such as The Roots, Cyndi Lauper, the Mountain Goats, as well as a band led by Bowie’s producer Tony Visconti.
