Tuesday hoops spotlight: No. 1 Kansas at No. 10 West Virginia
Bob Huggins’ group, which is among the more inconspicuous 11th-ranked teams in recent memory, walked out of WVU Coliseum on Tuesday night with an extremely impressive 74-63 victory against the nation’s top-ranked team, the Kansas Jayhawks (14-2).

Devin Williams leads West Virginia in scoring at 14.5 points per game and rebounding with an 8.6 average, which is fourth in the Big 12.
It was the third consecutive win for West Virginia in Morgantown over the Jayhawks, as the Mountaineers frustrated the nation’s top ranked team into a season high 22 turnovers while out rebounding Kansas 41-39, including 15 offensive boards.
No. 10/11 West Virginia will face No. 1 Kansas tomorrow night at 7 at the WVU Coliseum.
Cue up John Denver, because West Virginia defeated the No. 1 team in the country. As a team Kansas shoots 50 percent from the floor, and nearly 46-percent from three-point range, while also being one of the better defensive teams in the league presenting problems for the Mountaineers. Ellis scored 11 and Devonte’ Graham beat the halftime buzzer with a straight-on 3 to keep Kansas close, before West Virginia used three point-blank baskets to go up 43-30 early in the second half.

Oklahoma State’s trip to West Virginia went wrong before the team plane even left Stillwater.
The Cowboys traveled without starting center Anthony Allen and backup point guard Tyree Griffin, leaving them shorthanded against the Big 12’s top rebounding team and a team that thrives on full-court pressure defense.
There was very little to like about the way KU played in the first half.
“We did have some good stops and the first-shot defense wasn’t bad at times”, Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford said. Jeffrey Carroll and Jeff Newberry also had double digits for the Cowboys, scoring 10 and 12 points, respectively. Eight players posted at least two points in the first half, with senior guard Jaysean Paige leading the pack with seven points. Jevon Carter added 10.
Without Daxter Miles in the lineup, a trio of double-digit scorers made sure the Mountaineers had no trouble easing past the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday. Moments later Phillips drove and scored WVU had some breathing room again at 8 points. Six of those rebounds were by Jonathan Holton. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised on FOX Sports Southwest Plus.
Last season, Juwan Staten’s layup in the final seconds gave WVU a 62-61 win over Kansas.
