Classical Music Wins Big at Golden Globe Awards
Amazon’s “Mozart in the Jungle”, about backstage battles in New York City’s classical music world, won the Globe for best comedy or musical and its star, Gael Garcia Bernal, won best actor for his role as the conductor Rodrigo De Souza.

“Mr. Robot”, a thriller about a security engineer who struggles with social anxiety disorder, pipped “Empire“, “Game of Thrones“, “Narcos” and “Outlander” to win the best television series – drama.
As award-winning shows and their stars including political satire “Veep”, ground-breaking transgender series “Transparent ” and quirky black comedy “Fargo” sat on the sidelines, only Jon Hamm, star of advertising drama “Mad Men”, was a repeat victor.
The answer is surprisingly simple: Put a shiny new toy in front of the faces of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association voters, and they just can’t help but play with it.
Lady Gaga – shunning her trademark sensational outfits for an elegant black evening gown by Versace and a Marilyn Monroe-esque hairdo – shed tears as she won the award for best actress in a made-for-television limited series or movie. That “Musical” designation is key because, just like two-time Globe victor “Glee”, “Mozart in the Jungle” incorporates music into the show. Fox television’s popular hip-hop industry saga “Empire ” produced a best actress win for a jubilant Taraji P. Henson, who plays family matriarch Cookie Lyon.
“Mr. Robot” hacked its way to some trophies, too.
“This is one of the greatest moments in my life”, said an emotional Gaga.
“I waited 20 years for this”, she said. An excited Bloom recalled that the show was turned by six other networks before landing at the CW. That suggests the other first-time nominees this year – Aziz Ansari, Rob Lowe, Patrick Stewart – were out of the running because their shows – “Master of None”, “The Grinder”, “Blunt Talk” – were all snubbed.

Hamm – who also won an Emmy for the role – saluted the “incredible ride” of the show and thanked “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner, “who wrote this disgusting person all the way through to the end”.
