Jackpot hits $1.5bn in United States lottery record
Stores throughout the D.C. region said their sales of tickets for the record-setting, $1.4 billion Powerball jackpot – make that $1.5 billion – are skyrocketing on the eve of Wednesday night’s drawing. As USA Mega explains, “You select five distinct numbers between 1 and 69, and one “Powerball” number between 1 and 26″. Winners can also choose the cash prize, which is the total amount now up for grabs, but that is “only” $868 million.

Southern Californians are scrambling to buy Powerball tickets as Wednesday’s big drawing inches closer, with a jackpot now estimated at a mind-boggling $1.4 billion dollars.
Canadians are crossing the border in droves to pick up tickets for the record-breaking Powerball jackpot.
“Compared to the previous few months where sales were between $950,000 and $3.5 million each week, that’s about 7 to 20 times more”, she said.
