Bears coordinator Adam Gase hired as Dolphins coach

Regardless of whether a second interview was or will be scheduled, it does sound as though a second interview with Gase will take place.

“I really enjoy that aspect of putting the game plan together with the offensive staff, so going into this season, that’s how we’re going to start”, Gase said. “That’s more than half my life”. Last season the Dolphins had one of their worst campaigns in years. Age is only a number. You’ve got your work cut out for you. “Every week is a growing experience”. Miami has interviewed six candidates to replace him. Gase said he’s ready for the challenge because Manning used to tell him he was “the head coach of the offense” in Denver, which got him thinking about running a team on his own someday. I’ve always been impressed with his work ethic and his eagerness to learn more.

Said Cutler: “I wish he could stay with us in Chicago….” Given the revolving door of offensive coordinators during Cutler’s time in Chicago – the next one will be Cutler’s sixth in eight years – it wouldn’t make much sense for the Bears to bring in another outsider.

Adam Gase emerged as the front-runner Friday in the Miami Dolphins’ coaching search. The offense helped Denver finish the regular season 13-3, winning the AFC West and earning the top seed in the AFC playoffs, where the Broncos won the conference title and played in Super Bowl XLVIII. He is regarded by some as a rising star in the coaching ranks and it was clear that he was going to land a head coaching job this offseason, whether it was in Miami or elsewhere.

The Miami Dolphins had fired coach Joe Philbin following an early-season loss in London to the Buffalo Bills.

At the very least, Florida has no state income tax and the millions that he will receive from the Dolphins will be worth approximately 6-8 percent more, although the cost of living in South Florida should eat that up relatively quickly.

The most famous quarterback who worked with Gase was Peyton Manning, who set National Football League single-season records in 2013 with 55 touchdown passes and 5,477 passing yards in Gase’s first year as offensive coordinator for the Broncos. But their near-deal with Gase fell through and the 49ers instead promoted defensive line coach Jim Tomsula to head coach.
