Broadway, ‘Ghostbusters’ actor David Margulies dies at 78

Beloved character actor David Margulies has died at 78-years-old, and while you may not know his name, you will definitely know his face.

An off-Broadway mainstay, Margulies’ most recent credits included After the Revolution at Playwrights Horizons, All That I Would Ever Be at New York Theatre Workshop, The Accomplices at the Acorn Theatre and The Illusion at Signature Theatre Company.

His face was instantly recognizable from dozens of films and TV shows, including 1984’s “Ghostbusters”, in which he played the mayor of NY. He also appeared in eight episodes of The Sopranos, playing Tony’s lawyer Neil Mink.

Veteran actor David Margulies has died at the age of 78 of a longtime illness his agent Mary Harden, confirmed to Deadline.

The last role that Marguiles played was Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel in ABC’s upcoming miniseries Madoff, starring Richard Dreyfuss as Bernie Madoff. On the small screen, he was recognizable for parts on several TV shows including Northern Exposure, NYPD Blue, Chicago Hope, Law and Order and Touched by an Angel.

Margulies was born in New York City on February 19, 1937. He made it to the Great White Way itself in 1973 with a revival of The Iceman Cometh. His credits include Dressed To Kill, All That Jazz, Daniel, Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel, Ishtar, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Nine 1/2 Weeks, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Ira & Abby, Fading Gigolo and, recently, A Most Violent Year.
