N.Korea’s Kim Jong Un says H-bomb test self-defensive step against US

In August 2015 when South Korea resumed the psychological warfare to respond to what Seoul claimed was land mine explosions orchestrated by DPRK forces, it took just 10 days to trigger an exchange of artillery fire in border areas between the two Koreas.

However, most countries, including the United States, seriously doubt its claims that it exploded a hydrogen bomb.

The bomber flew low past the Osan air base, flanked by an entourage of two South Korean F-15Ks and two U.S. F-16s before returning to its home base, the two sides’ militaries said.

Diplomats at a U.N. Security Council emergency session pledged to swiftly pursue new sanctions.

Interviewed on CNN, McDonough said the United States would work with South Korea, Japan, China and Russian Federation “to deeply isolate the North Koreans” and “squeeze” them until they lived up to prior commitments to get rid of their nuclear weapons.

USA forces in South Korea were also put on their highest level of alert on Monday.

Lee, who was conducting a joint inspection of air force units, said there is a “very high likelihood” North Korea would undertake more provocative acts, and precautions are necessary. Separately, a panel of experts on North Korea said existing United Nations sanctions against the reclusive country are going unenforced.

“There has been an increase in troops along the border following North Korea’s fourth nuclear test”, Mr Kim said.

South Korean companies – mostly small- and medium-sized – make products such as watches and fashion goods with cheap labor from North Korea.

The potential for a collapse in North Korea is a bigger threat to South Korea than a direct military confrontation, credit ratings agency Moody’s Investors Service analysts Shirin Mohammadi and Steffen Dyck said in an e-mail on Monday.

The researcher estimated that North Korea imported 4.24 million barrels of crude from China in 2013 and 3.89 million barrels in 2014.

Still, the second nuclear test since Kim came to power four years ago may have angered President Xi Jinping, who in October sent a high-ranking envoy to Pyongyang with a handwritten letter seeking deeper cooperation.

Washington is reportedly writing a draft resolution proposal for the UNSC that would stifle North Korean trade and finance through a partial ban on its ships seeking to enter ports around the world and a cutoff of banking transactions similar to the ones previously levied against Iran. However, US Forces Korea officials said they had no knowledge of the plan.

The environmental officials were mobilized from nuclear monitoring centers in China’s northeastern provinces of Jilin, Liaoning and Heilongjiang, as well as those from Beijing and Shandong province, the statement said.
