Jordan Spieth cruises to TOC win

He was one shot shy of the 54-hole record at Kapalua that Ernie Els set in 2003 on his way to an eight shot win at 31-under par, making him the only player in PGA Tour history to finish a 72-hole event at 30 under or better. He still hasn’t won a tournament since here at Kapalua previous year, but his stellar results continue.

21-year-old Jordan Spieth became the second-youngest player to win at Augusta, behind only Woods’ 1997 effort, and just the fifth man to lead the prestigious tournament from start to finish. Photo by Brian Spurlock of USA TODAY Sports. “I know what he did”.

“Everyone is going to be bringing it and I have to work harder”. Maybe I do, I don’t know. After a simple up-and-down for birdie on No. 6, he made his second bogey of the week on the par-3 eighth hole. “It worked this week and all parts of the game were firing”. Spieth started the day with a four-shot lead and ran off four straight birdies.

Jordan Spieth might be next.

“Very satisfied”, Spieth said. Woods ranked third in driving distance his third year on Tour, compared to Spieth last year who was 78 in driving distance. “Thanks @NetJets for the flight home”. He finished with a four-under 69 to reach 22-under 270.

“I am a bit surprised at my chipping because I have not put much time into my chipping whatsoever in the last month”, he said. Reed gave chase early with back-to-back birdies on Nos. It certainly didn’t. If anything, I felt we have even improved in this off season.

Rickie Fowler dazzled fans with his flashy new style and his fine play. That’s closing in on 20 years ago for those counting.

Spieth won for the seventh time on Tour Sunday, doing so before the age of 23, a feat only completed by Woods and Horton Smith.

“I’m nowhere near (Tiger)”.

“I think each time you can close one out… when you’re in contention again, people are thinking, ‘OK, he knows how to close, right?”

“It is nice to be in that company anytime you can get into the company of some of the hall of fame players”. This was Koepka’s first top 10 on the PGA Tour since the Wyndham Championship.

Playing alongside someone who drains a lot of clutch putts can be mentally taxing, something Brooks Koepka learned Sunday when he was forced to play with the world’s best golfer.

Australians Jason Day (65) and Steven Bowditch (72) tied for 10th, finishing at 15 under. The two long-ball hitters had three rounds in the 60s apiece, marred by even-par 73s.

After a week at home in Dallas, he heads to the Middle East for the HSBC Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and Asia for the Singapore Open before resuming his PGA Tour schedule at Pebble Beach and Riviera. He entered this week missing his last three starts worldwide, including the Australian PGA, where he began the tournament with a disastrous opening round of 84.

Jordan Spieth shot 28 birdies and two eagles over his four rounds
