Shenmue 3 is now the most financially successful gaming Kickstarter in the crowdfunding site’s history, passing the $5 million mark Friday with less than 12 hours to go before its deadline.

But after years of waiting, can the game possibly live up to fan expectation?
“Shenmue III” became a record holder in different categories in Kickstarter from the time it was revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015.
Ys Net’s Shenmue 3 broke a very recent milestone when it racked up $5 million in crowd-funding since launching roughly a month ago. The title was previously held by the recent Kickstarter for the Castlevania re-imagining Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
If this project reaches its funding goal, Shenmue 3 will be available on the PS4 and PC.
The original goal of $2 million was eclipsed within hours and while funding died down after the initial spark, the new record has been set. It means that “Shenmue III” will have an expanded character perspective system. There are two left in the tier that is comparable in price and reward, in which the backers will have dinner with Yu Suzuki in Monaco and also receive the replica Ryo jacket. With no confirmation as of yet whether a physical version will be available the only way to buy it may be digitally.

Suzuki and other members of the Shenmue 3 team will take part in a “Final Hours” Twitch broadcast beginning at 4 pm PT. The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter will come to an end at 6:51 pm PT today. Even if it is only $5, you will sleep well knowing that you assisted in contributing.
