First Disney Resort In Mainland China Set To Open This Summer
The official opening date represents a significant milestone for Disney, which faced challenges in constructing a $5.5 billion, 963-acre theme park, hotel and entertainment complex.

“When it comes in June, Shanghai Disney resort will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese”, Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Robert Iger said in a statement.
The resort, one of the largest foreign investments in China’s history, blends classic Disney stories and characters with new experiences carefully tailored to the local market.
From Treasure Cove, the first pirate-themed land in a Disney park, to Tomorrowland, with its massive, color-shifting canopy at the TRON Lightcycle Power Run, not to mention the largest Disney castle ever, there’s so much to look forward to.
The resort is expected to bring 5 million new passengers annually to the Pudong Internatinal Airport after it opens in June, according to the Sinolink Securities.

Wishing Star Park, a recreational area set in about 40 hectares, which promises impressive natural views and stunning sunsets. Disneytown will also include the Walt Disney Grand Theatre, which will be home to the first-ever Mandarin production of The Lion King. The opening of Shanghai Disney Resort will mark a key milestone in the development of tourism in Shanghai, changing the landscape of the industry and delighting guests for generations to come.
Disney has been talking about building a Shanghai theme park since the mid 2000s.
The long-planned Shanghai Disney Resort will open on June 16, 2016, Disney has confirmed Tuesday following a report by the Wall Street Journal.
