The jackpot is still growing. He says most of us are doing it all wrong.
While it may not be $1.5 billion, the lottery’s grant money to Mesa County is by no means small.
Matching the five white-ball numbers qualifies for a $1 million prize, which doubles to $2 million if it’s a Power Play ticket.
The lottery’s website says the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338.
After taking care of her family and others, Davis said she knows of one thing she’d buy for herself. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.87.
“All persons are prohibited from importing into the United States from any foreign country… any lottery ticket, or any printed paper that may be used as a lottery ticket”, the law states.
“I would say if you’re gonna gamble, if you’re gonna play the lottery, do it for fun, have a good time, laugh about it, but don’t go in with the expectation that you’re gonna win”, said Horn.
This came as sales for the game have been on a decline and players were suffering from what Ahlms described as “jackpot fatigue:” the jackpots need to be increasingly high to entice players to buy tickets. Still, lotto officials say the $2 you spent on your ticket isn’t being wasted.
The drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. Wednesday and tickets, which cost $2 each, can be purchased until 9:45 p.m. David Kaplan, a math professor at York College, said people would have to shell out quite a bit to guarantee success and claim the big prize.
The folks at Powerball say that during peak sales on Tuesday afternoon there were 18,178 tickets sold every minute.
