Bowie’s last album called his ‘parting gift’ to fans by producer

The statement read: “January 10 2016 – David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer”.

Now, the producer of Blackstar Tony Visconti has opened up about working with Bowie on the album, in which he confirmed that the release was deliberately created and timed as a “parting gift” for his fans.

Van Hove said Bowie was desperate to finish “Blackstar” and “Lazarus” before it was too late.

Floral tributes were also offered in other parts of the world, including outside the singer’s NY apartment and in Berlin, where Bowie had lived during the 1970s. West tweeted, “David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime”.

Brits chairman Max Lousada said the “extraordinary life and work” of the “visionary and ground-breaking” three-time award victor would be celebrated at the ceremony at London’s O2 on February 24.

Stars including Sir Mick Jagger, Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney could be among those invited to play. “Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in”, Bowie said.
