In response to the tightening race, Clinton is dispatching two of her best-known surrogates – husband Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea Clinton – onto the campaign trail. “I was one of the leaders in the efforts to prevent that from happening”.

Sanders, who describes himself as an independent socialist Democrat, is edging Clinton in Iowa, a middle-of-the-country farm state, by 49 to 44 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll of Iowa Democrats released Tuesday. Women have been considered an important bloc for the former secretary of state; in November, Clinton led Sanders among by almost 20 points among the demographic.
Clinton has long resisted directly targeting Sanders, fearing that such attacks would alienate his passionate supporters. “Now maybe if I lived in a place like New Hampshire, with your governor, I would feel okay about that”. Likely Democratic Caucus participants give Sanders an 87-3 percent favorability rating, compared to 74-21 for Clinton.
The toughened tone reflects fresh turbulence in the race for the Democratic front-runner, as she struggles to consolidate support among the various wings of the Democratic Party.
What’s more, Gallup data shows that patients covered by Medicare or the Veterans Affairs department (which Sanders’ bill would preserve) are more satisfied with their coverage than Americans covered by private health insurance plans.
Both candidates received dueling endorsements on the eve of Obama’s State of the Union address.

On Tuesday, Sanders received the critical endorsement of MoveOn.org, a prominent grassroots organization that champions progressive policies. He was supported by 78.6 percent of its membership in an online vote of more than 340,000 members, according to the group.
