David Gordon Green to direct Boston Bombing film

According to The Hollywood Repooter, Gordon Green has signed on to direct Stronger, which is scheduled to be Lionsgates take on the subject matter.

This film (one of many Boston Marathon bombing projects now in the works) centres on Jeff Bauman, a survivor who lost both his legs in the attack.

On April 15, 2013, two pressure cooker bombs exploded at the annual marathon in Boston, taking three lives and injuring about 264 people. Producers are David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV with Scott Silver, who together received Oscar nominations for David O. Co-written by Bret Witter, the book follows Bauman as he attempts rehab and acts as a key witness in the trial against bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Russell’s “The Fighter” at Paramount.

David Gordon Green has proven his diversity as both an indie and mainstream filmmaker, offering intimate, smaller-budget dramas and wacky, wide-release comedies.

There are now currently three Boston bombing movies in the works, with “Boston Strong” starring Mark Wahlberg, and “Patriot’s Day” earning backing from CBS Films and Fox, respectively.
