Browns now finalizing deal to hire Bengals OC Hue Jackson as their next HC, per sources. That’s one of the biggest reasons why Jackson was one of the hot coaches on the market this offseason.
The Giants are still looking for a replacement for head coach Tom Coughlin, who stepped down last Tuesday. But Jackson is a well-regarded coach around the league, and the Browns can be glad that they got their man.
The Browns fired Mike Pettine this offseason after a 10-22 mark in two years. That was one day after Haslam hired Sashi Brown to become vice president of football operations.
He spent the previous four seasons with the Bengals, holding the role of offensive coordinator for the previous two seasons. He coached running backs in 2013 and was a special teams and defensive backs assistant in 2012 when he returned for his second stint under Marvin Lewis.
Jackson will become the team’s eighth coach since 1999 once the sides have finalized his deal, the person told The Associated Press on Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the hiring. There’s talk that McAdoo could be the favorite for the Philadelphia Eagles’ vacant head coaching job; he interviewed in Philly late last week.
Jackson was the offensive coordinator in Baltimore in 2008-09 and was responsible for the drafting and development of Joe Flacco.

The former Oakland Raiders head coach during the 2011 season, where he led the team to an 8-8 record, Jackson has found a rebirth in Cincinnati, guiding an offense that gained 5,728 yards, scored 50 touchdowns and had a pair of Pro Bowl players, wide receiver A.J. Green and tight end Tyler Eifert this past year.
