Tillman became a really good pitcher starting in the second half of 2012, when everything seemed to just click. One thing to focus on with the latest Detroit Tigers rumors, is that the team might not have a lot of options with Justin Verlander. “So that makes it doubly impressive”.

Both teams finished with 14 hits. Take away Kinsler’s leadoff single and Tillman potentially could have captured his first no-hitter as a big leaguer.

“They started doing the light test and whatnot in front of me”, he said. Then he goes, ‘Shut your right eye, ‘ so I did and it was pretty spotty. “Just wasn’t able to execute as well as I would like”.

The team had been hoping he would bounce back from a rough 2014 Major League Baseball season, where he posted a 4.54 ERA and 1.398 WHIP over 32 starts. With 105 pitches thrown, Tillman gave way in the ninth to closer Zach Britton, who picked up his 24th save with a flawless inning.

The Tigers trailed by a 7-1 score when Verlander left the game.

With one out in the third, Orioles third baseman Manny Machado lifted an 81-mph curveball from Price over the left field wall for his 20th homer. Two of the first three hitters reached base against him, but he struck out Davis and retired Matt Weiters on a groundout to end it.

In the fifth, he added a solo homer, his 26th of the year, moving momentarily into a tie for the AL lead before Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels hit his 27th later in the night. “When you get an early lead on that guy, it is something you need to [keep], especially with a guy like that”. The Tigers lefty struck out 12 in seven innings. 500 as they start the second half, and they have to start winning alot of games if they are going to catch up to the leaders in the Central Division. Gonzalez has never had much success against Detroit, posting an 0-2 record with an 8.47 ERA in four games – three starts.Verlander thought he had his first win locked up at Minnesota on July 10, when he allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings, but the bullpen permitted seven runs in an 8-6 loss.

The next game is Saturday evening at 7 p.m.

“I was having trouble gripping my breaking balls all night”, he said. Facing Ryan Tepera (0-1), Casali.
