Trump narrows the gap on Cruz in Iowa
That came after apparent supporters of Cruz ran a poll in Iowa testing nearly the exact same attack line against Trump, according to a Tuesday RealClearPolitics report.

Vermont U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders leads Clinton, 49-44 percent in Iowa, according to a Quinnipiac University poll.
“I will say it is more than a little unusual to see Donald relying on as authoritative a liberal, left-wing, judicial activist Harvard law professor who is a huge Hillary supporter”, Cruz said to a reporter, who asked about Trump referencing Harvard Professor Laurence Tribe who wrote that Cruz might be ineligible to be president.
The Trump campaign announced that in addition to Tamposi and Gamache, also backing Trump were Arthur Sullivan, co-owner of Brady Sullivan Properties, which owns City Hall Plaza, the Brady Sullivan Plaza and the Brady Sullivan tower.
He went on, “I’m also pleased to tell you Donald last week finished building the wall”, and without missing a beat added, “Donald paid for it!”
Cruz’s allies do appear to be keeping Rubio on their radar: Along with the potential attacks on Trump, the call sought reaction to four current ads featuring Rubio, in addition to Trump’s first television ad and three ads featuring Cruz (one negative and two positive). Cruz suggested that he had no knowledge of the poll.
The poll of 414 likely New Hampshire GOP primary voters was conducted January 7-10 and had a margin of error of 4.8 percentage points.
The main debate will feature seven candidates, down from nine in the last one: Trump, Cruz, Sen. Among that segment of the Republican electorate who don’t think someone foreign born should be able to be President, Trump is crushing Cruz 40/14.
And in an interview with MA radio station WRKO, Cruz made his most personal charge yet, saying Trump “embodies NY values”, and portraying Trump as out of step with an increasingly southern, religious GOP. And the reason these attacks are happening is because other candidates, especially the Trump campaign, are getting nervous that conservatives are uniting behind our campaign. “You had me in ninth place”, Christie said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program. Just trailing him is Ben Carson at 11 percent, down 2 points from December.
Asked on the show about Hillary Clinton’s comments that Trump “was basically a Democrat before he was a Republican”, Cruz noted, “I would say Hillary would know well how to identify Democrats”. “Mainstream Republicans are running out of time to find an alternative to Trump or Cruz”.

“What you did here today to get here is harder than what you’re going to have to do at caucus night, I promise you that”, Trump’s Iowa co-chair, Tana Goertz, told a crowd in Ottumwa Saturday.
