The operation has disrupted regular ferry services to Circular Quay.
All tours of the Opera House were cancelled for the day, an Opera House employee told AAP. A metal fence being manned by police and security guards is preventing people from getting in close proximity to the Opera House.
The iconic Sydney Opera House was evacuated after the NSW police apparently received security threat. Those who wish to leave the site were also free to do so.
“That police operation has now concluded”.
She said she was waiting for police to reopen it so she could take her family home.
Police are clearing people from the area and some ferry services have been cancelled.
Some reports suggest the operations could be the result of a hoax.

There were also reports that surrounding Botanical Gardens area may have been evacuated near the Opera House.
