Academy Award nominations could see repeat of OscarsSoWhite

The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, triumphed at the Golden Globes and is expected to scoop a few gongs at the Oscars too.

Nominations for the Academy awards will be announced in a press conference Thursday morning.

From films such as “Spotlight”, “The Revenant” and “The Big Short”, this year has seen some stellar performances from some of Hollywood’s leading actors.

HBO’s complete Oscar experience starts this Thursday, January 14, with a “Live Nominee Announcement” of the 2016 Academy Awards as hosted by filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Ang Lee together with actor John Krasinski and Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs. The drama won a handful of Golden Globes last Sunday, including for Best Motion Picture, Drama. Barring a major surprise, the best actor, best actress and best supporting actress fields will be all white. Some were based on real-life stories – Room, Spotlight, The Big Short and Bridge of Spies – while others, such as Mad Max: Fury Road and The Martian were just pure, unadulterated fun.

– ‘Leo is getting nominated ‘ -In the best actor race, DiCaprio’s strong performance is nearly sure to earn the 41-year-old actor not only a nomination, but his first Oscar, industry watchers say.

The 88th Academy Awards are set to kick off in Los Angeles on February 28th. Mr. Rock said that he was, “Glad to be hosting the Oscars”, and that, “It’s great to be back”.
