‘Michigan House’ opening up during previews for auto show
Dr. Dieter Zetsche, chairman of the board of management Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars addresses the media as the automaker unveils the new E-Class sedan during a preview night for the North American International Auto Show, Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 in Detroit.

The biggest news at this year’s auto show is not about the autos at all – it’s what manufacturers are planning to put in them. The 2017 Fusion will have a plug-in hybrid model, with a new Platinum luxury package available, and a Sport model with a 325-horsepower twin-turbo powered engine more potent than a BMW 3340. The sedan was first shown past year in September and has won accolades from both fans and critics.
Chrysler, meanwhile, surprised many by ditching its household-name Town & Country and redoing its Pacifica model to take over as its flagship minivan-style vehicle. “From developing lightweight manufacturing materials to pioneering connected and autonomous vehicle communications systems, the American auto industry is shaping the way we will get around for decades to come”.
There will also be plenty of more muscular vehicles, with Honda and Nissan set to reveal new pickup trucks.
The objective of Michigan House is to show off how creative ingenuity is the key to the future. Volvo will show its sleek new S90 sedan.
The Bolt delivers 200 horsepower, along with a 0 to 60 miles per hour speed of less than seven seconds, and GM representatives say that the low center of gravity created by the placement of the battery in the floor of the vehicle makes Bolt’s handling feel more like that of a sports auto than an ordinary sedan.
“All automakers by 2025 have to meet certain emissions and fuel economy requirements, so they are hedging their bets by getting there sooner rather than later”, he said. Might cross-town rivals at Chrysler and General Motors have another top-secret vehicle tucked away somewhere in Cobo Hall…we’ll know soon enough!
The 2016 Detroit Auto Show already got off to a great start yesterday with the press being allowed in to see what the big carmakers have to offer.
The Japanese automakers also have new offerings, with Infinity showcasing the new Q60 coupe, the QX60 SUV and the Q50 sedan, while Lexus will present its LC 500.
“Lexus is basically still a one-car company with the RX”, he said.
“It’s kind of what we’re known for”, Kuniskis said.

After Detroit, the worldwide auto-show season continues with major shows in Geneva, Paris, Beijing, Los Angeles and NY.
