The battle of the blondes: Vonn wins super G, Gut leads overall
American skier Lindsey Vonn completed a successful weekend on the World Cup circuit, winning the super-G race in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Austria, on Sunday, a day after winning the downhill.

Vonn produced a near-faultless first run, clocking a time of one minute 4.94 seconds to finish 0.91 seconds ahead of Canadian Larisa Yurkiw.
Vonn, who equalled Austrian Annemarie Moser-Proell’s record haul of 36 career downhill victories yesterday, proved similarly dominant in the Austrian resort with a near-perfect performance.
In 2012, Vonn won the latest of her four overall titles and came just 20 points short of breaking the then record for the highest World Cup points total in a single season.
Lara Gut’s lead in the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup standings is now just 38 points after Lindsey Vonn triumphed again in Austria.
“I didn’t let the pressure get to me and to be tied with Annemarie is incredible so I’m very happy and looking forward to tomorrow’s (super-G) race”, the 31-year-old Vonn told reporters.
I just had a bad feeling after (not finishing last months downhill in) Val dIsere, I lost the momentum, I was exhausted, my knees hurt, and I was sick in the end, she said. Cornelia Huetter took the third spot in the race – a repeat of her finish in the downhill on Saturday. “But physically I am OK”, said the Swiss skier, who leads Vonn by 158 points in the overall standings and will remain on top before Sunday’s super-G. With two runs, I figured if I was behind in the first run, I can maybe ski a little bit more aggressively in the second. Organizers had to lower the start because of insufficient snow conditions in the upper part, shortening the course from its usual 3 kilometers to 1,875 meters.
O say can you see? “It was tough with lots of bumps”.
“I skied a little more conservatively in the second run”. She remained upright but missed a gate. Like in Saturday’s downhill, she finished third, 1.25 seconds from Vonn.
