To be nominated for an Oscar is wonderful recognition from your peers in the entertainment and film industry of incredible talent and ability, and it is fantastic to see Irish talent receiving this recognition.

With the nominees just announced, there’s a good chance someone from the Emerald Isle could nab an Academy Award at the upcoming Los Angeles ceremony.
Rounding out the category are Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs and Golden Globe winners Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant and Matt Damon for The Martian.
“Spotlight” actress Rachel McAdams and Jennifer Jason Leigh also landed nominations in the Best Supporting Actress category.
Although he hasn’t been nominated for his performances, four of Domhnall Gleeson’s movies are up for the the gong this year.
There’s also hope in the Best Foreign Language Feature group, where Paddy Breathnach’s Viva is expected to make the cut. Dublin Writer/Director Benjamin Cleary has also been nominated for Best Live Action Short Film with Stutterer.
President Michael D Higgins congratulated the Irish nominees for the unprecedented showing. “I am delighted to send my warmest congratulations to the Irish nominees on the occasion of the unprecedented strong Irish representation at the Oscars 2016”, he said.
Over all Irish films picked up a record nine nominations today, the largest ever for the Irish film industry.
Fingers crossed she brings home the gold on February 28th, when the 88th Academy Awards will be hosted by Chris Rock in Hollywood.
