Martian, Revenant get awards boost with wins at Golden Globes
There were some surprises though, such as the resounding success of The Revenant, which won best film, best director and best actor which went to Leonardo DicCaprio. The dubious placement of “The Martian” in the comedy category was a running joke throughout the evening – even Scott questioned it as he walked on stage to accept the best picture award. Spotlight, an early Globes favourite about a controversial story uncovered by journalists from The Boston Globe, went home empty-handed despite three nominations.

Some of the loudest applause of the night was heard when Leonardo DiCaprio’s name was announced as Best Actor in a drama.
So while he is great in “The Revenant” and it’s a fine film, DiCaprio and the others didn’t win due to their acting.
“I don’t think it would be accurate to call “The Revenant” a Best Picture frontrunner, since there’s no overlap between the Globes and Oscar voting bases”, Vanity Fair digital director Michael Hogan said.
Even though all the dress alike thing was not true, they did deliver one of the funniest moments at the night when they presented clips from their respective movies Joy and Trainwreck, which were both nominated for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.
But the Academy Awards only have one Best Actor category with winners at the Globes going head to head.
Rising star Brie Larson won best actress in a drama for her role in “Room”.
In her speech for winning best supporting actress in a TV series, movie, or limited series for The Affair, Maura Tierney committed a classic public speaking sin, using the phrase “uh” or “um” more than 20 times in less than two minutes.
It is the same for the Best Picture prize at the Globes.
The 73rd Golden Globe has just concluded its 2016 awards night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California at 8 P.M. on January 10, Sunday night, hosted by Ricky Gervais.
Lady Gaga has promised to release a new album in 2016.

“There are only 82 people from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association voting for the Golden Globes while 6,200 vote for the Oscars, and all of them are associated with the actual making of film”, Feinberg said.
