Lake Erie waves turn auto into ice sculpture

The auto, which was frozen solid in recent snowy conditions, will need more than an ice scraper and antifreeze to get moving again.

“Wind gusts of up to 47 miles per hour produced huge waves on Lake Erie near Buffalo, causing the water to spill over and freeze onto parked cars”, ABC News reported.

Justin Yelen, 24, was out with his drinking buddies at Hoak’s Lakeshore restaurant in Hamburg, New York and made a decision to park his vehicle by the lakefront.

The crew from Lake Erie Towing & Recovery in Hamburg posed with the “ice car” after they got it onto a flatbed.

Three days after it was found encased in ice, the so-called ice auto of upstate NY is finally free. “This is an image that’ll stick with me for years and years to come”, he said.

The severe weather also forced the closure of several schools on Monday.

“We were watching the Green Bay game on Sunday, and we might have watched some of the [Buffalo] Sabres game, too”, Yelen told The Buffalo News.

Snow is due to reach the south of England on Thursday and Friday, with temperatures dropping below freezing overnight.
