Nikki Haley Defends Her Words
And apparently it’s an emotion that Nikki Haley, the governor of SC, the Republican governor, also feels because in her response to President Obama’s State of the Union, she also brought up the divisiveness in this country, and she seemed to single out Donald Trump.

Nikki Haley says she would consider being the vice presidential candidate for the Republican Party this year.
But the 43-year-old Haley echoed Obama’s sentiments about Trump’s campaign, which has drawn much of its support from his flamboyant anti-immigrant, anti-Washington rhetoric and pointed taunts at his Republican opponents, most of whom are current or former governors and senators. “Mr Trump has definitely contributed to what I believe is irresponsible talk”. This is just something that we learned in SC that I’m passing it along. She warned against the siren call of the country’s angriest voices and said Republicans share the blame for our current state of affairs and should look in the mirror.
“Well, considering I’m leading in the polls by a lot, I wouldn’t say she’s off to a good start”, Trump said.
“This is just something that we learned in SC that I’m passing along”, said Haley. While he said he was an admirer of Haley, he hailed the speech as proof that the Republican establishment is trying to drive conservatives out of the party and define who is qualified to be a Republican.
The South Carolina governor had to walk back comments she made about the presidential candidates.
She also said no one willing to work hard “should ever feel unwelcome in this country” – an apparent response to Trump’s controversial statements about Mexican immigrants and his plan to temporarily bar Muslims from entering the U.S. He did, however, diss President Obama, tweeting, “The State Of The Union speech was one of the most boring, rambling and non-substantive I have heard in a long time”.
On Tuesday night, Nikki Haley delivered her response before a national audience that probably represented a cross-section of the electorate.
As the Monitor’s Linda Feldmann noted Wednesday morning, Haley’s message shared quite a bit with Mr. Obama’s. “We need to accept that we’ve played a role in how and why our government is broken, and then we need to fix it”, Haley said.

But no doubt they also will be mapping out the paths to the presidency that various candidates may or may not be able to pursue successfully – and Trump should figure in those discussions. “And that is what she should be judged on”, the Washington state Republican told reporters. And, you know, there’s a lot of concern that that’s the drift right now. “We can’t afford to take that risk”, Haley said. He said “the vision she outlined for our country was important, it was grounded in reality”. She doesn’t, and I think the people in her great state, I love her state, I’m there a lot, and by the way I have a massive lead in SC.
