Drug lord was interested in Mexican actress, not Sean Penn
Federal officials also said they had detected recent efforts to register “El Chapo Guzman” as a commercial trademark, possibly by the drug lord’s lawyers.

“The Chapo Guzman story has been one of the most captivating stories this past year and we are thrilled to bring an inside look into his world to our audiences”, Alberto Ciurana, Univision’s programming chief said.
Beginning Sunday, captured drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman will be moved from cell to cell as a way to ensure that he won’t escape a Mexican prison, a senior Mexican government official told CNN on Wednesday.
An L.A. shop called Barabas is now selling two shirts, and is now using El Chapo’s image as part of their branding.
When the drug kingpin was recaptured again late last week by Mexican marines, those hopes appear to have been dashed.
And with his triumphalist “mission accomplished” tweet, it’s clear that Peña Nieto and his government want people to be talking about El Chapo and Sean Penn, because it distracts from the real problems in Mexico: the unending violence, crime, corruption and impunity; and the ongoing and historic devaluation of the Mexican peso relative to the dollar, now at 18.2:1.
The extradition bid comes as new details about Guzman’s surprise meeting with Sean Penn in October emerged, with a newspaper publishing pictures showing that the United States actor was monitored by the authorities.
As for Penn’s writing, you take it for what it is.
Guzman, 57, was arrested in the northern city of Los Mochis on Friday (Jan 8), six months after a dramatic second jailbreak through a tunnel in his cell.
Charlie Rose has revealed that he has met with Sean Penn about a possible sit-down, one-on-one interview about the actor’s experience interviewing drug kingpin Joaquin Guzman, also known as “El Chapo”.
In January 2012, the Mexican film and television star Kate del Castillo began a correspondence with El Chapo and the two developed a mutual trust of one another.
“I must confess that I feel protected for the first time”, del Castillo wrote on a Blackberry he sent her specifically for their communications.
Guzman managed to get out of the maximum security facility, authorities said, by making his way down a hole underneath the shower in his cell. After stealing another vehicle, they were quickly intercepted and apprehended by Mexican authorities.
“What I can say is we are gratified the capture was successful”.
Neither Penn’s publicist nor Rolling Stone replied to requests for comment on Wednesday.
“If during the dinner El Chapo gave them money, or jewels, or he gave them money for the movie or any other transaction, they could be charged with money laundering, ” Barragan y Salvatierra said. “I mention Trump. El Chapo smiles, ironically saying, ‘Ah!” “In this case, it was a small thing to do in exchange for what we got”, Mr Wenner said. At the time, they said, he suffered injuries to his leg and face as he evaded capture.

“She’s still in high school and she really likes all that narco drug music”, she says, referring to narcocorridos, popular Mexican music celebrating the exploits of the drug trade.
