Leonardo DiCaprio took best actor in a drama for his performance in the same film while Brie Larson was chosen as best actress for her role in Room.

The Revenant. So far, Spotlight has been a front-runner for best picture, and while The Revenant probably doesn’t overtake Tom McCarthy’s acclaimed journalism drama, the film’s best drama win stakes its claim as a serious competitor.

“I know a lot of very serious actors and filmmakers who have been having meetings like this forever, and writers for that matter”, he said, declining to name names. Sometimes, this led to good winners, as when Mr. Robot, USA’s exciting new hacker drama, took the prize for Best Drama Series. Jane Fonda (Youth), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight) and Helen Mirren (Trumbo) seem just as strong, and two Oscar hopefuls in the category – Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) and Rooney Mara (Carol) – both were vying in best actress at the Globes. Though Inarritu had a similar run at the Academy Awards last year with the best-picture winning “Birdman”, he won only a share of best screenplay at last year’s Globes.

When the 41-year-old actor was backstage after nabbing his first Globe for Best Actor in The Revenant, he told Entertainment Tonight that he had a perfectly logical explanation for the shade throwing, saying, “I just didn’t know what was passing me”. It was a major shock, but majorly deserving for his reprisal of Rocky Balboa in “Creed”.

A cut-to-commercial moment at Sunday’s Golden Globes was possibly our favorite of the night – and the Internet agreed. And that nomination was for “Rocky”.

“I want to do this monologue and then go into hiding”, Gervais said barely 10 seconds into Sunday night’s telecast.

Best actress victor Jennifer Lawrence channels modern day Hollywood glamour in her sleek red Dior Haute Couture column with insane side slits. It’s been up in the air who would come out on top of the tight race in the acting category, and her acceptance speech summed up her excitement and shock. “Not even Sean Penn will find me”, Gervais joked, taking a swig of beer on stage and labeling the actor, “Snitch”.

Anyone who believed Ricky Gervais would have mellowed during his three-year break from hosting the Golden Globes might be too much of an innocent to be watching at all.

Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement honoree Denzel Washington also fumbled his way through his speech, which generally serves as a poignant respite in an otherwise irreverent evening.
