The occupied Palestinian territories have been the scene of heightened tensions between Palestinians and Israelis since August past year, when the Tel Aviv regime imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem), angering Palestinians.

Relations between Israelis and Palestinians remain tense amid a wave of attacks on Israelis by Palestinians and some Israeli Arabs which have killed 22 Israelis since the beginning of October.

Israel has employed a raft of security and punitive measures in a bid to stem attacks.

Meanwhile, Palestinian assailants have killed 23 Israelis, including soldiers and civilians.

Commentators say the surge in attacks has been fueled by the collapse of U.S.-sponsored peace talks in 2014, the growth of Jewish settlements on land Palestinians want for a future state and Islamist calls for the destruction of Israel.
