NBC executive: Jimmy Fallon doesn’t have a drinking problem

Fallon was forced to step away from “Tonight Show” for almost two weeks a year ago after he nearly severed his left ring finger at his home.

Asked about published reports that Fallon parties too hard, Greenblatt said that “he doesn’t have a drinking problem that any of us know about”.

Greenblatt, who cautioned that contracts remain to be signed for Hairspray, said NBC has started a musical trend for other networks.

“He goes out and has fun, and he’s had some accidents”, and, “There’s been conversations about that, [but] the stories are exaggerated about all of it”. Speaking with reporters after his morning session, Greenblatt said the musical’s focus on race relations and diversity was a big factor in its selection.

There’s a difference between being in business with Trump and having him on shows like “Saturday Night Live” and “Meet the Press”, Greenblatt said. “I’m friendly and close with all those producers and the creative team, and I think sure, we’d love to be able to film Hamilton in some capacity but I think it would be years before they even look at a movie or any kind of film version of that show”. “But I think we will probably do something in that area if Lorne (Michaels) wants to do it. It’s always fun to do those”.

The network has scored hits – The Wiz and Carrie Underwood in The Sound of Music – and a miss with Peter Pan. Whether you’ll be tuning in the old school way on TV or (more than likely) watching the highlights online, you can also expect plenty of musical guests, games and sketches.

NBC has announced that Hairspray will be the network’s next live musical production following the critical and ratings success of The Wiz Live! “GLAAD documented us as the most diverse network”.

According to Entertainment Weekly, however, Greenblatt did admit that NBC has some concerns about Fallon’s health.
