Few people knew that Bowie was dying of cancer and had released the album as a final artistic statement, with wistful reflections from one of modern music’s most influential figures. I owe you a lot.
Jimmy also said that he and David used to exchange emails with each other from time to time. The latter song contains lines such as “The clinic called, the x-ray’s fine, I brought you home”, as well as references to tombstones and death. “This whole concept of a space man and a human being able to go into outer space and for me, as a kid who was really into space exploration and science fiction, it was just thrilling”.
Jimmy finished by telling his audience to get Blackstar and to “play it loudly and just thank him”.
David Bowie posed in a black fedora and well-tailored suit in photos posted just 2 days before the iconic artist died from cancer at 69.
According to the Mirror, Hove first learned of David Bowie’s death over the radio but says that he had an inkling something was wrong when he sent him an email, wishing him a happy birthday and never received a response. A musical chameleon, Bowie showed a remarkable ability to perceive and shape musical trends, and helped to change the course of pop – including introducing the world to glam rock.
“It was flawless, many through the night told me it was what he would have wanted and I haven’t stopped crying and singing and loving all evening”.
A David Bowie memorial concert is set for March 21 at New York’s Carnegie Hall following the singer’s tragic death.
