Receipts at China’s box office surged almost 50 percent a year ago, compared with the 7.2 percent growth seen in North America. That makes this the first weekend that the film grossed less than Avatar in a corresponding weekend.

The victory was driven by a strong $53-M debut in China, the biggest Saturday-Sunday opening of all time in that market.
The movie, which has broken all manner of American box-office records, is now closing in on “Titanic” for the No. 2 spot in global ticket sales. Unless Star Wars has wonderful holds internationally however, Avatar should remain the all-time champ internationally and worldwide. The opening easily beat out industry predictions, which figured it for the mid-twenties. This is a pretty big win for the actresses, considering it has already recouped its $30 million budget – and then some. That said, Abrams has also confirmed that there are no plans to put out an extended version of the film on disc. We may get deleted scenes when the DVD and Blu-ray come around, though, but nothing has been announced thus far. The board game features Luke Skywalker, Finn, Kylo Ren, and Darth Vader – yet, Darth Vader doesn’t physically appear in the film.
As for “The Revenant” right now the buzz on it is that this could be the end of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Susan Lucci-esque losing streak at the Oscars. Age of Ultron finished with 240.1 million from China, being a large portion of the total oversees amount, $946 million. That’s a slip of 44% from last weekend. $100 million is an unlikely goal, but it may be able to reach $90 before it completes its run. Sisters, $US7.2 million ($US3.4 million) 6. That is his second-highest wide release drop of all-time, just behind Grindhouse’s 63% fall in 2007. But it has to be considered a disappointing take at this point.
